Mohawk Industries Delivers Solid Q3 Performance Amidst Challenging Market Conditions

Mohawk Industries, a leading global manufacturer of flooring and other home products, reported solid third-quarter 2026 earnings despite facing challenging market conditions. The company's overall operating result was in line with expectations, even as demand softened late in the quarter.

In a conference call to discuss its Q3 performance, Mohawk CEO Paul De Cock highlighted four key areas of progress during the quarter. These included growing sales and executing price increases in response to rising inflation, led by growth in Global Ceramic's U.S. retail and Countertops business, as well as Flooring North America's retail and commercial segments.

De Cock also noted that Flooring Rest of the World sustained pricing gains despite lower market volumes. Additionally, Mohawk acted decisively to offset the impacts of higher underlying inflation with a combination of price, mix, and productivity, which more than offset the impacts of higher underlying inflation.

The company converted its performance into cash, generating $471 million in cash from operations and $390 million in free cash flow during the quarter. This brought year-to-date free cash flow to $626 million. Mohawk also substantially increased share repurchases, returning $261 million to shareholders in the quarter, more than double what it did in the first half.

De Cock took the opportunity to discuss the performance of various end markets. In the U.S., market conditions remain challenging following recent rises in rates, leading to weakened demand exiting the quarter and a softening across most products and channels during October, particularly in the builder channel. However, Mohawk is executing well and focused on improving its leading market positions across all channels.

The company continues to differentiate its products and service advantages. Residential repair and remodel, which represents approximately half of Mohawk's U.S. sales, has seen consumers defer larger projects due to weakened existing home sales outlook. However, activity through the specialty retail channel is holding up better and improved sequentially.

De Cock also highlighted several areas where Mohawk's business is outperforming the market. These include residential carpet, which saw adoption of its industry-first asthma and allergen-friendly carpet exceeding expectations; Laminate business, which continues to outgrow the category on scratch resistance and real wood visuals; Ceramic remodel business, which improved for a fourth consecutive month; and Countertops, which grew on new quartz designs and Mohawk's concierge program.
