NET Power Inc.'s Q2 2026 Earnings Call: A Shift in Strategy for a Reliable Energy Future

NET Power Inc. recently released its second-quarter earnings report for 2026, showcasing a significant shift in strategy to meet the pressing demands of the energy market. In a conference call on August 14, 2026, CEO Danny Rice outlined the company's plans to prioritize unabated power generation while maintaining its commitment to clean gas technology.

According to Rice, the company conducted an extensive customer engagement and marketing process over the past four months, speaking with various prospective power buyers, including hyperscalers, data center developers, and industrial companies. The overwhelming response was a need for speed, scale, and reliability in power generation, which is willing to pay a fair price for it.

Rice emphasized that the market's shortage of reliable power at scale is critical to the United States' success in the AI race. He noted that NET Power's clean gas technology layer has a fundamental understanding of all things gas power generation, making it unique in the industry. However, the market demands more power and needs it sooner.

In response to this demand, Rice announced that NET Power will be reassessing its allocation of capital and skills to prioritize unabated power generation. This transition is seen as a pragmatic response to structural market conditions that are expected to persist for many years. The grid has become a binding constraint on data center growth, leading to creative solutions like behind-the-meter, on-site generation with targeted reliability.

Rice emphasized that this shift in strategy does not come at the expense of the company's commitment to clean gas technology or carbon capture and storage (CCS). He highlighted the importance of CCS in achieving a cleaner energy future and noted the recent milestone achieved by the Entropy team, who commissioned the world's first clean gas power plant in Canada.

NET Power sees itself as part of the ecosystem providing solutions for behind-the-meter, on-site generation with targeted reliability. With its site, Oxy land relationship, and technical capabilities to deliver firm dispatchable power at scale, the company is well-positioned to meet the growing demands of the energy market.
