Okta Surpasses Expectations in Q2 2027 with Strong Core Business and AI-Driven Growth
Okta, a leading provider of identity and access management solutions, reported strong financial results for its second quarter of fiscal 2027. In a recent conference call, Todd McKinnon, Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder, outlined the company's performance, which exceeded expectations across key metrics.
The Q2 financial performance was driven by broad-based strength across Okta's core workforce identity and customer identity platforms. McKinnon highlighted that large enterprises, partner engagement, and contribution from newer products were areas of particular strength. The company also saw an acceleration in annual contract value growth for both workforce identity and customer identity, driven by strong execution and sales productivity.
McKinnon noted that the emerging use of AI by organizations and threat actors alike has further elevated the role identity plays within a company's security posture. As a result, organizations are accelerating their infrastructure modernization timelines to address this heightened threat environment. Okta is seeing conversations that begin with securing AI broaden into identity modernization initiatives.
The company's portfolio of new products, including Okta Identity Governance, is an important and fast-growing component of its solution set. In Q2, new products represented approximately 30% of bookings, with Okta Identity Governance being the leading contributor. The average ACV uplift when any of the new products are included in a deal is about 40%, demonstrating their value to customers.
Okta is investing heavily in product innovation to accelerate top-line growth. This has already resulted in faster product velocity, including advancements in its AI products and in the public sector. The company is excited about the launch of Agent Gateway, which enforces policy at runtime and delivers vendor-neutral protection across platforms and clouds.
McKinnon also highlighted Okta's success in the public sector, where it has been one of the best-performing verticals over the past few years. With the general availability of Okta for AI Agents Core, the company is now able to bring AI agent governance to highly regulated environments, including FedRAMP and HIPAA. This represents a critical milestone as defense organizations aim to meet the DoD's 2027 Zero Trust mandate.
Finally, McKinnon mentioned that achieving Impact Level 5 (IL5) authorization for the U.S. Department of Defense is a significant achievement, unlocking more U.S. federal opportunities for Okta.
