Pinnacle West Capital Corporation Delivers Solid Q2 2026 Results, Reinforces Commitment to Supporting Arizona's Growth
Pinnacle West Capital Corporation, a leading electric utility company in the United States, has reported solid second-quarter 2026 results, demonstrating its ability to execute on key operational and regulatory developments. In a conference call with investors and analysts, Chairman, President, and CEO Ted Geisler highlighted the company's commitment to supporting Arizona's growth trajectory.
"We had a solid second quarter supported by disciplined execution across the business," said Geisler, emphasizing the importance of meeting growing demand while delivering reliable and affordable service to customers. The company's all-of-the-above resource strategy is built to keep pace with this growth, leveraging existing infrastructure and transmission assets to provide reliable dispatchable generation.
One notable example of this approach is the planned conversion of two retired coal-fired units at the Cholla power plant to natural gas, which will provide approximately 380 megawatts of reliable dispatchable generation by 2029. This project demonstrates Pinnacle West's ability to repurpose existing infrastructure and transmission assets to meet growing demand while maximizing affordable value.
Geisler also highlighted significant investments in transmission, with multiple projects underway and additional opportunities under development. These investments enhance system reliability and resiliency, improve integration of new resources, and expand access to regional markets and out-of-state generation.
"By investing in our transmission infrastructure, we're able to reliably serve growing demand while maximizing the affordable value of assets already in place," said Geisler. "This is a critical component of our all-of-the-above resource strategy, which is designed to keep pace with Arizona's growth trajectory."
Another key highlight from the conference call was Pinnacle West's progress on its rate case. The company concluded 31 days of hearings on July 7th and has now moved into the briefing phase. Initial briefs are due August 27th, with reply briefs due September 11th.
"We remain focused on achieving a constructive outcome and consistent framework for recovering ongoing investments in order to support Arizona's growth and our customers' future energy needs," said Geisler. "Throughout this process, we're committed to engaging with stakeholders and working collaboratively to find solutions that benefit everyone."
Pinnacle West's commitment to supporting Arizona's growth trajectory was reinforced by the announcement of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company's (TSMC) additional $100 billion investment in the state. This investment brings TSMC's total commitment to $265 billion, with plans to develop up to 12 leading-edge fabrication and advanced packaging facilities in North Phoenix.
The ripple effect of this investment is significant, with nearly 20,000 acres of surrounding land now in various stages of planning and development. Halo Vista, a mixed-use development project, is already underway and expected to grow to approximately 30 million square feet by the end of the decade.
