PNC Financial Services Group Delivers Strong Q3 2026 Results Amid Robust Client Momentum
The PNC Financial Services Group recently reported its strong Q3 2026 results, reflecting the consistent execution of their strategy and the strength of their franchise. Chairman and CEO Bill Demchak highlighted the substantial client momentum experienced by the company throughout the year, which has continued through the third quarter.
Corporate & Institutional Banking (C&IB) saw impressive growth, with expansion markets adding approximately 500 new client relationships year-to-date, contributing to a 5% average C&IB loan growth during the quarter and 17% growth YoY. Capital markets fees increased by 40% year-to-date, while treasury management revenue rose by 8%. Meanwhile, retail banking continued to grow clients organically, adding 215,000 net new checking accounts so far in 2026.
The company's asset management business also saw significant growth, with fees up approximately 10% year-to-date and assets under administration totaling $500 billion. Favorable equity markets contributed to this growth, but the company's expansion markets have accelerated their growth even further. In these markets, AUM is growing five times faster than in legacy markets.
The results also showed a strong balance sheet with loans of $372 billion growing by $9 billion or 2% for the linked quarter, and security balances increasing 3% to $151 billion. Average deposits increased $4 billion, or 1%, to $461 billion, while borrowings rose by $7 billion to $86 billion. The company's tangible book value was stable compared with the same period a year ago at $108 per common share.
Bill Demchak stated that the company remains well-capitalized with an estimated CET1 ratio of 9.8% and has capital flexibility, enabling them to return $1.4 billion of capital to shareholders during the quarter, which included approximately $800 million of common dividends and $560 million of share repurchases.
The successful conversion of FirstBank has also contributed to the company's growth, with impressive results in expansion markets. The company's strategy of disciplined growth, prudent risk management, and continued investment in capabilities has strengthened their competitive position, enabling them to deliver another strong quarter.
