QuantumScape Accelerates Solid-State Battery Mass Production with New 100-MWh Line

QuantumScape, a leading developer of solid-state batteries, has announced significant progress in its cell manufacturing capabilities, with the inauguration of a new mass production line aimed at meeting the rapidly emerging opportunities for its QSDC and QSAS business verticals. The company's CEO, Dr. Siva Sivaram, made the announcement on a recent conference call, highlighting the importance of scalable production in driving customer adoption.

The Eagle Line, inaugurated in February this year, has become the workhorse of QuantumScape's customer engagement, allowing for an increased pace of customer sampling and billings. Building on this success, the company has announced a 100-MWh mass production line with output aimed at meeting the needs of its growing customer base.

This new line is expected to be operational by 2028, with engineering work already underway to develop higher throughput processes and equipment. The partnership with Muehlbauer Group will provide cell assembly equipment for this planned line, further demonstrating QuantumScape's commitment to end-to-end solutions for mass production of its technology.

QuantumScape has also announced partnerships with global players along the entire production flow, including Murata and Corning. These collaborations represent a major step forward in the company's efforts to achieve gigawatt-hour scale production, underscoring its position as a leader in the solid-state battery industry.

In addition to its progress on cell manufacturing, QuantumScape has also announced significant developments in its three business verticals: QSDC, QSAS, and QSEV. The company's QSDC business has seen a major milestone with the launch of the QS PowerBlock for AI data centers, which demonstrated 4x power density and 5x longer runtime than the reference specification from OCP.

The QS PowerBlock is an in-rack energy storage reference design that enables AI data center architects to harness the improved energy density, high power capability, and safety profile of the QSE-5 cell. This represents a significant step change in performance improvement provided by QuantumScape's technology and the value it can offer AI data center customers.

QuantumScape has also recorded its first customer billings from Honda agreement announced in June, marking an important milestone for its automotive vertical, QSEV. The company continues to engage with global automotive customers, further advancing commercialization and integration of its solid-state platform into their technology roadmaps.
