Semtech Surges Ahead with Record Revenue and Operational Leverage
On August 25th, Semtech Corporation reported its quarterly earnings for the second quarter of 2027, showcasing a remarkable performance with record revenue across all key focus areas. The company's Senior Vice President of Investor Relations, Mitch Haws, welcomed participants to the conference call, where Hong Hou, President and Chief Executive Officer, and Mark Lin, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, provided an overview of the quarter's highlights.
The Q2 2027 results saw Semtech deliver a revenue of $342 million, marking a 33% year-over-year growth. This significant increase was accompanied by earnings per share (EPS) of $0.71, showing a 73% year-over-year growth, more than twice as fast as the revenue expansion. Hong Hou emphasized that Semtech is "at the center of one of the most significant infrastructure build-outs in history," with its portfolio playing an essential role in this process.
The company's focus on data centers yielded outstanding results, with revenue reaching a record $100 million, up 39% sequentially and 91% year-over-year. This growth was driven by continued strength in 800G, 1.6T CopperEdge, and the start of 1.6T FiberEdge ramp. The demand for FiberEdge TIA (Transmitter-Receiver Interface) and driver solutions remained exceptionally strong, with Semtech deepening its engagement across leading hyperscalers.
Notably, the company has begun designing to every module provider in its target markets, several on a sole source basis, reflecting its technology differentiation and supply availability. This achievement demonstrates Semtech's ability to cater to diverse customer needs, particularly on emerging technologies like MPO (Multi-Position Optical) and XPO.
Throughout the conference call, Hong Hou highlighted that the company is reshaping itself with purpose, focusing on portfolio optimization and operating leverage. The sale of the cellular module business marked a significant step in this process, allowing Semtech to concentrate on core growth areas and build a predictable high-margin and high-return business.
As the quarter's results demonstrate, Semtech is poised for continued momentum into the second half of 2027 and beyond. With its robust portfolio and growing engagement with customers across various markets, the company is well-positioned to capitalize on emerging trends in data centers and infrastructure build-outs."
