SLB Hits Inflection Point: Q3 Earnings Mark Broad-Based Growth Across Divisions
Specialty equipment rental company SLB (formerly Schlumberger) reported a solid third quarter, driven by broad-based sequential revenue growth across its Core divisions. The results mark an inflecting upcycle in the industry, with increased activity across exploration, development, and intervention.
In a conference call on October 23rd, CEO Olivier Le Peuch highlighted the company's strong performance, citing the gradual recovery in the Middle East, steady growth in North America, and continued momentum across international offshore basins. Pre-tax segment operating margins expanded across all four divisions, with Production Systems leading the way.
ChampionX delivered its highest quarterly revenue since the acquisition, with margins expanding sequentially for the fourth consecutive quarter. Well Construction growth was driven by double-digit increases in key regions such as Argentina, Guyana, Brazil, and U.S. land, complemented by strong offshore drilling in Asia.
The company's results demonstrate the benefits of its strategic focus on production and recovery. The production business now represents more than 50% of SLB's portfolio, with a leading position across every major basin and a balanced mix of short- and long-cycle activity.
CEO Le Peuch noted that the near-term pace of recovery in the Middle East remains uncertain but emphasized the longer-term outlook continues to strengthen. This is reflected by Saudi Aramco's recent award of four integrated Well Construction contracts to SLB, covering more than 450 wells over an initial three-year term.
The company's Reservoir Performance division also delivered strong sequential growth, led by increased stimulation and intervention activity alongside an uptick in evaluation. This demonstrates that customers are investing in both restoration and production optimization of existing assets and evaluation of reservoirs to support new development.
SLB's results continue to demonstrate the resilience of its business model, with a durable foundation and greater revenue visibility. The company's Digital division reported steady sequential revenue and strong margins despite declining Digital exploration sales following exceptional sales in the second quarter.
