Solid Power Surges Ahead: Advancing Electrolyte Tech, Expanding Strategic Relationships, and Charting a Course for Commercial Scale
Solid Power, a leading player in the battery materials space, has continued to make significant strides in advancing its electrolyte technology, expanding strategic relationships, and charting a course for commercial scale production.
During the company's third quarter 2026 earnings conference call, President and Chief Executive Officer John Van Scoter highlighted several key achievements, including the introduction of materials into MOBIUS, the company's new continuous manufacturing pilot line. This milestone is expected to increase electrolyte production capacity by 150%, adding 45 metric tons of capacity and bringing total annual capacity to 75 metric tons.
"We are now progressing toward full commissioning, which remains on track for year-end," said Van Scoter. "MOBIUS represents an important step in our journey to commercial scale by providing us with manufacturing capabilities, operating experience, and the foundation we believe are critical to scaling our electrolyte technology."
In addition to advancing its manufacturing roadmap, Solid Power continued to advance discussions with leading battery materials manufacturers regarding a potential joint venture in South Korea for commercial-scale electrolyte production. The company believes that combining its technology and manufacturing know-how with the scale and expertise of an established industry leader could create a powerful platform to accelerate commercial adoption.
"Korea is at the center of all solid-state battery development," said Van Scoter. "We believe that combining our technology and manufacturing know-how with the scale and expertise and market access of an established industry leader could create a powerful platform to accelerate commercial adoption."
Operational excellence remains a core priority as Solid Power prepares for commercial readiness. The company recently completed stage 2 of its ISO 9001 certification process, with certification remaining on track for year-end. This is an important milestone for the company as it continues the transition from development toward commercial supply.
"ISO 9001 provides an externally recognized framework for maintaining consistent, repeatable quality across our operations," said Van Scoter. "It strengthens areas such as process control, traceability, documentation, and continuous improvement. Importantly, it also gives our customers greater confidence that we have the systems and operating discipline in place to consistently deliver high-quality materials as we scale production."
As Solid Power looks to commercialize its technology, the company is not solely focused on the electric vehicle (EV) market. The potential of all-solid-state batteries extends well beyond a single market, with exciting opportunities for applications such as humanoid robotics, drones, and defense, where safety and performance are increasingly important.
"We have entered collaboration discussions with potential partners to evaluate our sulfide electrolyte for these uses," said Van Scoter. "We see EVs as our North Star as we scale, but the potential of our technology extends well beyond a single market."
With MOBIUS online and operational excellence in place, Solid Power is poised to take its next steps toward commercial scale production. As the company continues to advance its electrolyte technology and expand strategic relationships, investors will be closely watching to see how these efforts translate into commercial success.
