Suburban Propane Partners Posts Strong Q3 Earnings Despite Weather-Related Headwinds
Suburban Propane Partners, a leading provider of propane and fuel products, reported strong earnings for the third quarter of 2026, despite facing challenges from unseasonably warm weather in certain regions.
In a conference call with investors, Mike Stivala, President and Chief Executive Officer, highlighted the company's ability to navigate these headwinds and deliver solid results. "Following a solid first half, we experienced sustained cold weather in the eastern half of the U.S. and extremely warm weather in the west," he said.
Despite the initial impact of warmer temperatures on demand, volumes for the quarter benefited from continued growth in Suburban Propane's counter-seasonal customer base. This trend allowed the company to substantially offset the effects of warmer weather, with volumes in both May and June exceeding prior year levels.
The company's operating personnel were commended for delivering exceptional customer service while maintaining discipline over operating costs in a rising and volatile commodity price environment. In addition, revenues from renewable natural gas (RNG) operations benefited from higher prices for environmental attributes, including a 31% year-over-year increase in California LCFS credit prices and an 8% year-over-year increase in D3 RIN prices.
Looking ahead, Suburban Propane is focused on opportunities for organic growth and production through continued capacity optimization and increased feedstock intake. The company also recognized a benefit of $1.1 million from production tax credits earned under Section 45Z of the Inflation Reduction Act for D3 injections at its Stanfield, Arizona facility.
The quarterly results demonstrate Suburban Propane's ability to adapt to changing market conditions and capitalize on opportunities for growth. As the company enters fiscal year 2027 with all three RNG facilities operational and an anticipated level of annual injection in the range of 750,000 to 800,000 MMBtus, investors are likely to be encouraged by this positive outlook.
With a strong track record of delivering solid results, Suburban Propane continues to position itself as a leader in the propane and fuel products industry. The company's commitment to innovation, customer service, and operational efficiency is expected to drive continued growth and success in the years ahead."
