Target Corporation Achieves Strong Q2 Results, Exceeding Expectations with 3.6% Traffic Growth

On August 19, 2026, Target Corporation hosted its second quarter earnings release conference call, offering investors and analysts a glimpse into the company's performance and outlook for the remainder of the year.

The conference call was led by Michael Fiddelke, Chief Executive Officer, along with Cara Sylvester, Chief Merchandising Officer, Lisa Roath, Chief Operating Officer, and Jim Lee, Chief Financial Officer. In his opening remarks, Mr. Fiddelke highlighted the company's refreshed strategy centered on serving busy families with a unique combination of style, design, quality, and value.

The strategy is built around four key priorities: leading with merchandising authority, elevating the guest experience, accelerating technology, and strengthening the team and communities. The results of this approach have been encouraging, with traffic growth up 3.6% compared to last year, representing a slight acceleration on a two-year basis compared to Q1.

"We're just getting started," said Mr. Fiddelke, "and there's still a lot of important work ahead." However, the early results give the company increasing confidence that their strategic investments will support continued growth on both the top and bottom line, making Target not just a place to shop but a destination for busy families.

One notable example of this progress is the completion of the largest volume of in-store transitions over the past decade. This involved layout changes encompassing nearly half of their center store grocery assortment, a complete reimagination of their Fun 101 floor pad, replacing nearly three-quarters of their decorative accessories assortment in home, and delivering limited time partnerships that reinforce Target as the destination for what's new, on-trend, and culturally relevant.

Cara Sylvester, Chief Merchandising Officer, will provide additional insights into the company's merchandising strategy and performance during the Q&A session. Meanwhile, Lisa Roath, Chief Operating Officer, and Jim Lee, Chief Financial Officer, will offer further details on the company's operational and financial results.

This marks a significant milestone for Target Corporation, with John Hulbert, Vice President of Investor Relations, set to retire after 26 years of service. Justin Madsen has been appointed as his successor, who will take over kicking off quarterly calls beginning with Q3 in November.
