Televisa Takes Off: Grupo Televisa's Q3 2026 Highlights

Grupo Televisa has just wrapped up an impressive third quarter, with some significant developments that are set to propel the company forward. At the heart of these advancements is a landmark agreement reached with AT&T to acquire its wireless telco business in Mexico for $2 billion.

This strategic move will give Grupo Televisa a unique platform for fixed mobile convergence, bundled offerings, cross-selling opportunities, and operational optimization, leveraging the company's existing content and broadband subscribers footprint. The combined assets would include over 24 million wireless, 5.7 million broadband, and 6.3 million video subscribers, resulting in around $8 billion per year in revenue - equivalent to approximately 23% of the total telecommunications market in Mexico.

Alfonso de Angoitia, Co-Chief Executive Officer of Grupo Televisa, expressed his excitement about this acquisition: "This transaction will materially strengthen our competitive position and offer significant value creation opportunities." The company is pursuing this acquisition through a 50/50 partnership with Fintech Holdings, with each partner contributing $400 million in equity. The remaining $1.2 billion will be funded through a five-year non-recourse loan.

In addition to this major announcement, Grupo Televisa has reported solid operating and financial performance for the third quarter. Francisco Valim, CEO of the company's Telco Operations, highlighted the company's focus on value customers and customer retention strategies as key factors behind its success: "We have been signing new deals with public and private customers, leading to a 6.8% year-on-year increase in net revenue from our enterprise operations." He also noted that the company ended September with a network of over 20 million homes passed, and had upgraded over 4.3 million homes to fiber-to-the-home technology by the end of the third quarter.

Another notable aspect of Grupo Televisa's Q3 performance is its mobile business. Despite a slowdown compared to previous quarters due to new regulatory requirements, the company's mobile net adds remained solid at 68,000 subscribers during the third quarter. Valim emphasized that Televisa's postpaid customers are well-positioned to face this new environment.

The Sky operating and financial performance also showed some improvement, with a decrease in disconnections compared to previous quarters. While revenue-generating units dropped by 250,000 during the third quarter, the company has been focusing on retaining its existing customer base.

Overall, Grupo Televisa's Q3 highlights demonstrate the company's commitment to growth and innovation. With this landmark acquisition and solid operating performance, it is poised for success in the competitive Mexican telecommunications market."
