Tilly's Executes on Turnaround Plan, Achieves Third Straight Quarter of Double-Digit Comp Sales Growth

The second quarter earnings call for Tilly's was marked by a sense of excitement and accomplishment as the company announced its third consecutive quarter of double-digit comparable sales growth. CEO Nate Smith took to the stage to discuss the company's progress, citing several key achievements that demonstrate its turnaround momentum.

In reflecting on his first full year at Tilly's, Smith noted the company's consistency in execution, acknowledging important milestones such as four consecutive quarters and 13 consecutive months of year-over-year comparable net sales growth. This includes a 12.1% comp sales increase in the recently completed second quarter and a 14.6% comp sales increase in fiscal August to begin the third quarter.

The company has also delivered seven consecutive quarters of year-over-year product margin improvement, with stronger full-price sales overall and improved average unit retails on aged clearance items due to the impact of AI price optimization investments made last year. Tilly's has been able to deliver higher sales on lower inventory levels so far this year, further aiding its product margin gains.

These improvements have led to five consecutive quarters of year-over-year profit improvement on the bottom line, driven by improved merchandise assortments, tighter inventory planning and management, sharper pricing decisions, significant efficiencies in store and distribution labor management, and stable home office expenses as sales have grown. This has returned Tilly's to profitability on a trailing four-quarters basis, as well as on a year-to-date basis for fiscal 2026.

From a merchandising perspective, all departments but footwear posted double-digit percentage comp sales gains in the second quarter, with strong performance across proprietary and third-party brands in apparel. The company's assortment was well-positioned for its critical back-to-school season, driving results that reflect the strength of its offerings and customer engagement.

In terms of store performance, all geographic markets posted comp sales gains in the fourth quarter, fueled by conversion, units per transaction, and average sale growth. Tilly's also opened one new store each in late July and early August, with plans to open an additional store in mid-November, closing stores at a steady pace throughout the year.

As Tilly's continues its turnaround story, CEO Smith emphasized the company's commitment to executing on its plan, building upon momentum generated so far. With its progress thus far, Tilly's remains encouraged and intent on continuing to drive growth and improvement for the future."
