TSMC Shatters Revenue Records with 17.6% Sequential Growth in Q3 2026, Guides Optimistic Outlook for Q4
In a remarkable display of industry leadership, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has reported an extraordinary 17.6% sequential revenue growth in the third quarter of 2026, reaching $46.7 billion and solidifying its position as the world's leading semiconductor foundry.
The company's Director of Investor Relations, Jeff Su, welcomed investors to TSMC's quarterly earnings conference call, where they were treated to a detailed analysis of the company's financial performance for Q3 2026. CFO Wendell Huang led off with key highlights from the quarter, citing strong demand for their leading-edge process technologies as the primary driver behind the revenue surge.
"We are pleased to see our third-quarter revenue increasing 17.6% sequentially in NT [New Taiwan Dollar] and 16.2% in USD," said Huang, "above the high end of our guidance. This reflects a significant improvement over Q3's performance."
The company reported a gross margin decrease of 1.3 percentage points to 66.4%, primarily attributed to the initial ramp-up of their 2 nm technology. However, TSMC anticipates a slight recovery in Q4, with a guided gross margin range of 65% to 67%. Operating expenses accounted for 7.8% of net revenue and operating margin stood at 58.7%.
"Our third-quarter EPS reached TWD 29.43, while ROE [Return on Equity] was 45.5%, demonstrating our company's continued profitability," added Huang.
On a technology basis, the company reported 2 nm process technology accounted for 8% of wafer revenue in Q3, with 3 nm and 5 nm each contributing 28% and 33% respectively. Advanced technologies (7 nm and below) dominated at 79%. By platform, HPC led the charge, increasing 22% to account for 68% of TSMC's third-quarter revenue.
Highlighting a solid financial foundation, TSMC ended Q3 with cash and marketable securities totaling $126 billion. Their balance sheet demonstrated reduced current liabilities due to increased bond and loan payments, as well as dividend disbursements.
The company successfully generated $13.8 billion in capital expenditures during the quarter and distributed $156 billion for fourth-quarter 2025 dividends. This demonstrates TSMC's financial discipline and ability to generate cash even while investing heavily in new technologies.
TSMC has also provided a cautious yet optimistic outlook for Q4, with revenue expected to reach between $52.3 billion and $54.3 billion, representing a 14% sequential increase or a 58% year-over-year rise at the midpoint. This projection underscores the company's commitment to growth and their confidence in the semiconductor industry.
TSMC is well-positioned for future success due to its innovative technologies, strong financials, and diversified customer base. With revenue records shattered in Q3 2026, TSMC has solidified its position as a leader in the global semiconductor landscape, paving the way for continued growth and profitability.
