Unitil Corporation Shines in Q3 2026: Strong Financials, Strategic Acquisitions, and Sustainability Leadership
Unitil Corporation, a leading utility company, has reported impressive financial results for the third quarter of 2026. In a recent conference call, Chairman and CEO Tom Meissner highlighted the company's achievements, which demonstrate its commitment to delivering safe, reliable, and affordable service to customers.
The company announced adjusted net income of $38.3 million, or $2.12 per share, for the first nine months of the year. This represents a 4.4% increase compared to the same period in 2025, reflecting disciplined execution of operating and strategic priorities.
One of the key highlights of the quarter was the seamless integration of recently acquired companies, Aquarion Water Company of New Hampshire and Abenaki Water Company. These acquisitions have diversified Unitil's regulated utility portfolio and expanded its customer footprint across the state.
"We're pleased to share that the transition has been seamless," said Tom Meissner. "Our customers continue to receive the same high level of service and reliability that they did before the change in ownership."
Additionally, Unitil completed the permanent financing for its acquisitions of Maine Natural Gas and the New Hampshire water companies, repaying term loans used to finance those transactions.
The company's regulatory agenda is also making steady progress. Its Northern Utilities gas rate cases in both Maine and New Hampshire are moving forward as expected, while its electric side implementation of advanced metering infrastructure remains firmly on track.
Unitil has reaffirmed its 2026 guidance of $3.20-$3.36 per share, with a midpoint of $3.28, as well as its long-term earnings growth of 5%-7%. The company's commitment to sustainability is also evident in its Corporate Responsibility Report, which outlines plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and achieve net-zero status by 2050.
Through 2025, Unitil has reduced its scope 1 emissions by approximately 19%, with a focus on direct measurement of fugitive methane emissions. These emissions historically accounted for over 80% of its scope 1 emissions when estimated using EPA Subpart W emission factors.
