Vail Resorts: A Winter of Resilience and Renewal
Vail Resorts, the leader in destination resort operations, has emerged from its fiscal 2026 fourth quarter with a sense of resilience and renewal. Despite an exceptionally challenging weather year, the company demonstrated the strength of its business model, achieving record guest satisfaction scores and strong employee engagement and retention.
According to Rob Katz, CEO, the company's advanced commitment strategy and resource efficiency transformation plan delivered meaningful stability, enabling Vail Resorts to stay focused on its long-term objectives. The investments made in people, operations, and the guest experience have paid off, with the company achieving significant improvements in these areas.
The past 18 months have seen a renewed focus from the board and company to accelerate change across the organization. A new CEO and chief revenue officer were appointed, along with a new board member with extensive hospitality experience. Marketing approach was revamped, including increased marketing spend, adjusting channel mix, elevating resort branding and messaging, and optimizing products and pricing.
The company also expanded its resource efficiency transformation program by $30 million and launched a new company-wide guest focus growth strategy, Epic Experience. These actions are grounded in a clear view of where the company can improve and have the greatest opportunity to strengthen the business and drive strong competitive differentiation.
One notable success has been the improvement in pass sale trends, which improved by approximately 5 points compared to the earlier selling period, thanks to changes made to media strategy heading into last winter. The introduction of Epic Friend Tickets and super advanced lift ticket pricing also had strong results, with Vail Resorts outperforming the industry in lift ticket visitation.
While pass sales remain down from prior year during this selling period, third-party data indicates that the company continues to outperform the broader industry, even more so on comparable unlimited products. This is not surprising given the severity of the conditions experienced last season and the massive growth seen in pass sales over the previous five years.
Angela Korch, CFO, will discuss the results in more detail, but it's clear that Vail Resorts has made significant progress in addressing its challenges and positioning itself for future success. The company remains focused on delivering sustained improvement in financial performance, driven by its priorities and commitment to excellence.
