VersaBank Surpasses CAD 7 Billion in Total Assets, Achieves Record Growth Amid Strong Year-Over-Year Performance
September 3rd marked a significant milestone for VersaBank as it revealed its third-quarter fiscal 2026 financial results. In an exciting call with investors and analysts, company founder and President David Taylor showcased the bank's remarkable growth, record-breaking performance, and strategic moves that solidify its position in the industry.
With CAD 7.2 billion in total assets as of yesterday, VersaBank has surpassed the CAD 7 billion mark for the first time. This achievement represents a compounded annual growth rate of more than 25% over the past five years, underscoring the bank's rapid expansion and success.
The company's Structured Receivable Program (SRP) in the U.S. has been instrumental in driving this growth. The program generated nearly 25% of Q3 digital banking revenue, further solidifying its position as a key contributor to VersaBank's momentum.
As Taylor noted, the bank's cloud-based branchless business-to-business model is increasingly realizing operating leverage, resulting in year-over-year increases in net income and adjusted or core net income of 53% and 27%, respectively. This impressive performance demonstrates the company's ability to scale efficiently and effectively manage its resources.
While costs were higher than typical levels during Q3 due to non-core expenses, Taylor emphasized that these are not part of the bank's go-forward cost structure in 2027. The company is well-positioned for future growth and cost savings, with plans to implement AI throughout its organization to boost efficiency and create meaningful opportunities for cost savings.
The net interest margin can vary from quarter to quarter, but VersaBank expects it to trend back to the 2.3% range going forward. Additionally, the company will continue to benefit from cheaper deposits through increased activity in its insolvency professional business, which recently reached CAD 1 billion for the first time.
As VersaBank continues to break records and push boundaries, investors and analysts alike are taking note of the bank's remarkable performance. With a strong foundation, strategic vision, and commitment to innovation, VersaBank is well-positioned to drive further growth and success in the years to come.
