Vicor Corporation Roars into Q3 with Record-Breaking Revenue and Gross Margin
The third quarter earnings conference call for Vicor Corporation was a thrilling affair, as the company's top executives delivered some outstanding financial results. With revenue soaring by 37.5% sequentially from the second quarter of 2026, reaching $197.1 million, Vicor is undoubtedly on a roll.
Jim Schmidt, Chief Financial Officer, led the call, highlighting the impressive growth in product and royalty revenue. Advanced products revenue, which includes royalty revenue, increased by an astonishing 47.5% sequentially to $138.9 million. Brick Products revenue also saw significant gains, rising by 18.4% sequentially to $58.3 million. Notably, royalty revenue skyrocketed by 119.1% sequentially to $66.6 million.
Shipments to stocking distributors have been on the rise as well, increasing by 24.8% sequentially and a substantial 16.2% year-over-year. This reflects the company's growing success in meeting customer demand and expanding its global reach. Interestingly, exports as a percentage of total revenue decreased to approximately 36.1%, down from the prior quarter's 46%. This change might indicate a strategic shift towards focusing on domestic sales or adjusting product offerings.
The real showstopper, however, was Vicor's gross margin performance. A whopping 68.3% consolidated gross profit margin was recorded for Q3, representing a staggering 1,030 basis point increase from the prior quarter. This impressive improvement is attributed to increased royalty revenue as well as better product gross margins due to gains in volume, efficiency, and mix.
Total operating expense rose by 29.6% sequentially to $62.5 million, primarily driven by higher legal expenses related to royalty revenue. While this increase may raise concerns about operational costs, the company's focus on revenue growth and margin expansion remains a key differentiator in the industry.
Patrizio Vinciarelli, Chief Executive Officer, and Phil Davies, Corporate Vice President, Global Sales and Marketing, were also present during the call, taking questions from analysts. The webcast replay of this conference will be available on Vicor's investor relations page for those who missed it or want to review the discussion.
Overall, Vicor Corporation's Q3 results demonstrate remarkable resilience and growth potential. The company's dedication to expanding its product offerings, increasing royalty revenue, and improving operational efficiency has positioned itself well for continued success in a competitive market.
