WEC Energy Group Surpasses Earnings Expectations, Boosts 2026 Outlook
WEC Energy Group recently reported its third-quarter 2026 earnings results, exceeding analysts' expectations and solidifying the company's position as a leader in the energy sector. In a conference call held on October 29th, 2026, Scott Lauber, Chairman, CEO, and President of WEC Energy Group, presented the company's impressive financial performance.
The company reported earnings per share (EPS) of $1.18 for the third quarter, a significant increase from $0.83 in the same period last year. This growth was attributed to warmer-than-normal weather, effective execution of their capital plan, and operational efficiency. As a result, WEC Energy Group remains on track to deliver strong results for 2026.
Lauber expressed satisfaction with the company's performance, stating, "Our continued focus on the fundamentals of our business is creating value for our customers and stockholders." The company also raised and narrowed its earnings guidance for 2026 to a range of $5.60 to $5.64 per share, reflecting a 7.7% growth in EPS from their 2025 adjusted guidance midpoint.
WEC Energy Group's five-year capital plan is another significant highlight from the conference call. The company expects its electric demand to grow by 4.9 gigawatts between 2026 and 2031, an increase of 1 gigawatt compared to the prior plan. This growth is driven by major data center developments in the I-94 corridor south of Milwaukee, particularly Microsoft's large data center complex.
Microsoft has purchased more than 2,200 acres in the region, with construction underway on additional facilities as they expand their presence. WEC Energy Group is preparing to serve forecasted demand of 3.2 gigawatts in the I-94 region through 2031, with potential for further expansion. The company also highlighted progress with Vantage Data Centers and Oracle, which could reach 3.5 gigawatts of demand over time.
The project's development includes an eSTATCOM system to maintain grid reliability, as ATC has refiled a proposal with the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin. WEC Energy Group has ensured that both Microsoft and Oracle have committed to paying their full share for energy costs through their very large customer tariff.
The company also highlighted its commitment to supporting local communities, having worked with Oracle to save customers an estimated $300 million in fuel costs. The full details of this agreement are expected to be submitted to the Wisconsin Commission in the coming months.
