WesBanco's Third Quarter Performance: A Tale of Strong Loan Growth, Expanding Markets, and Disciplined Execution

WesBanco Inc. delivered a robust third quarter performance, showcasing continued momentum across its franchise. The company reported net income available to common shareholders of $86 million, or $0.89 per share, for the quarter ending September 30th, 2026, excluding merger and restructuring charges.

The defining driver of WesBanco's momentum this quarter was strong loan growth, with total loans increasing 5.1% year-over-year and 8.7% annualized sequentially. Commercial & Industrial (C&I) growth was particularly strong, rising 11% year-over-year and 16% quarter-over-quarter annualized.

WesBanco's commercial teams generated record loan production of nearly $4 billion through the first nine months of the year, a 70% increase from the prior year period. Despite a 1% headwind to loan growth caused by CRE payoffs totaling approximately $370 million during the third quarter, the company still managed to generate $1 billion of net organic loan growth over the past year.

A recent mid-Atlantic win highlights WesBanco's relationship-focused model and its ability to turn individual relationships into meaningful multi-product opportunities. A cross-functional team secured an eight-figure commercial loan, a seven-figure deposit relationship, and treasury management services from a prominent family-owned business in the Baltimore region.

The company remains excited about the opportunities in its targeted expansion markets of Florida and Tennessee. Since launching in the second quarter, WesBanco's Florida team has developed $300 million in new loan relationships and a similar-sized pipeline, with nearly a third of the C&I across various industries like healthcare, wholesale, and transportation.

WesBanco's capital position remains solid, with a Common Equity Tier 1 (CET1) ratio of 10.6%. The company also improved its return on average tangible common equity to nearly 17% and lowered its efficiency ratio to 52%, while adjusting earnings per share increased nearly 7% to $2.72.

WesBanco's disciplined growth strategy and relationship-focused banking model continue to drive the company's performance. With a strong commercial pipeline of $1.8 billion as of September 30th, WesBanco remains confident in its ability to outpace CRE payoffs and deliver on its outlook of mid-single-digit loan growth in 2026.

The company's ability to successfully convert loan opportunities and turn individual relationships into meaningful multi-product opportunities will be key in maintaining this momentum. With a solid capital position, improving profitability, and expanding markets, WesBanco is well-positioned for continued success in the years to come.
