Workday Surpasses Expectations in Q2 2027: AI Adoption Fuels Growth and Momentum
Workday, a leading provider of cloud-based human capital management and financial management software, has reported impressive results for the second quarter of fiscal year 2027. The company's earnings call, held on August 27, 2026, revealed strong growth in AI adoption, driving significant revenue and customer acquisition.
Aneel Bhusri, CEO of Workday, expressed his enthusiasm about the quarter's performance, stating that it was a "fun time to be back in the tech industry." He highlighted the growing importance of AI products, which alone drove more than $100 million of new Annual Contract Value (ACV) and accounted for over 25% of all new ACV closed in the quarter.
The company's commercial success with AI was evident in the strong early returns from Flex Credits, a product that allows customers to purchase additional seats on demand. Workday expects this trend to accelerate going forward. Moreover, the adoption of organic agents, which are deeply integrated into the platform, has seen a significant increase, with more than 5,500 customers using one or more agents, up 35% from last quarter.
Workday's Lighthouse program, which provides strategic customers with free access to Sana Enterprise for a year, has attracted some of the world's largest brands. The company's own employees have also been enthusiastic about the tool, and Workday expects this momentum to continue in the second half of the year.
Gerrit Kazmaier, President of Product and Technology, and Rob Enslin, President and Chief Commercial Officer, will cover the numbers shortly, including the impact of AI adoption on the company's outlook for the second half and fiscal year 2028. Zane Rowe, CFO, will provide further details on Workday's financial performance.
Notably, Aneel Bhusri emphasized that he has not met a single customer looking to replace Workday with something built internally or purchased from a startup. This is attributed to the company's "deterministic rails," which ensure that agents work within existing permissions, policies, and business processes, making them trustworthy for critical tasks.
Workday's Q2 2027 results demonstrate the company's commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction. As AI adoption continues to fuel growth and momentum, investors and customers alike will be watching closely to see how Workday leverages this trend to drive future success."
