Alcoa Corporation Surpasses Operational Milestones Amidst Challenging Times

In a recent conference call, Alcoa Corporation's President and Chief Executive Officer William Oplinger shared the company's remarkable third quarter performance. Despite facing a tragic fatality at its Alumar smelter in Brazil on September 16th, Alcoa demonstrated unwavering commitment to safety and operational excellence.

The loss of one of their colleagues has deeply affected all employees at Alcoa. In response, the company reaffirmed its values, prioritizing integrity, excellence, care for people, and courage. Safety remains a fundamental aspect of their business, guiding every decision. Notably, Oplinger emphasized that no production target or financial result is more important than ensuring employee safety.

Despite the unfortunate incident, Alcoa has continued to build operational momentum, achieving six year-to-date production records. Aluminum production increased by approximately 15,000 metric tons sequentially, and they successfully completed the Alumar smelter restart. The Pinjarra refinery also experienced a significant performance recovery, demonstrating the company's improving stability and disciplined execution across its portfolio.

The company reached a definitive agreement for the sale of a portion of the Massena East site, with potential cash proceeds of up to $315 million. This is the first transaction supporting their target to generate $500 million-$1 billion from asset monetization by 2030. The AliGroup acquisition continues to advance, reinforcing confidence in its strategic and financial rationale.

Regarding the AliGroup acquisition, Oplinger provided an update on progress toward closing. Alcoa completed a $2.6 billion debt financing in September, canceled the bridge facility, and estimated that the locked box value exceeded $300 million at the end of the quarter. The regulatory approval process is progressing well across relevant jurisdictions.

The company's commitment to safety and operational excellence has enabled it to overcome challenges and maintain momentum. As Alcoa continues on its journey toward a safer and more sustainable future, stakeholders can expect ongoing progress toward their ambitious targets.
