Amerant Bank Delivers Strong Q3 Results, Advances Strategic Priorities
Amerant Bancorp, a leading regional bank in the United States, has delivered strong third-quarter 2026 results, showcasing its commitment to building a more profitable and resilient franchise. The company's net income increased to $25.7 million or $0.65 per diluted share, marking another step forward in its strategic priorities.
According to Carlos Iafigliola, President and CEO of Amerant Bank, the progress reflects "stronger net interest income and margin expansion, disciplined expense management, continued balance sheet optimization, and improving credit quality." He emphasized that this quarter represents a significant milestone in advancing the bank's strategic priorities towards sustainable growth.
One of the key initiatives driving this growth is the transformation of the bank's credit function. Through "strengthening risk selection, portfolio monitoring, and credit operating model," Amerant has been able to reduce non-performing loans and classified balances while actively resolving criticized exposures. This effort has led to a strengthening of the credit foundation, enabling the bank to focus on disciplined underwriting with growth in higher-quality relationships.
Amerant has also made significant strides in operational efficiency, including "simplifying how we operate, optimizing structural cost, increasing capacity, and creating a more scalable platform that can deliver consistent service and stronger returns." This effort resulted in a substantial improvement in the efficiency ratio, narrowing the gap to the 60% target.
In addition to these initiatives, Amerant has also prioritized client profitability through "managing the full relationship return, not simply individual products" and directing resources toward clients where it can create the greatest value. This focus on profitability is evident in strengthened referral discipline and coordination across commercial banking, private banking, treasury management, and wealth management.
As part of its growth strategy, Amerant has identified key verticals and client segments to build scale, including more granular C&I, residential lending, practice finance, logistics and wholesale, asset-based and supply chain finance, and selected CRE opportunities with experienced sponsors. This targeted approach is expected to drive further growth in priority markets.
Amerant's strong Q3 results and strategic priorities position the bank for continued success in 2026 and beyond. As Carlos Iafigliola noted, "Delivering on our financial and credit quality commitments, continuing simplifying our operating model, focusing investment toward the market and capabilities where Amerant has a distinct competitive advantage, and deploying capital and resources toward the most attractive opportunities" remain top priorities for the company.
