American Outdoor Brands Inc. Fires Up Fiscal 2027 with Strong Q1 Performance
On September 3, American Outdoor Brands Inc. (AOB) kicked off fiscal year 2027 on a high note, delivering impressive first-quarter financial results that exceeded expectations.
During the company's conference call to discuss its Q1 2027 financial performance, AOB President and CEO Brian Murphy highlighted the strength of the company's brands, healthy demand from retailers and consumers, and the continued impact of its innovation strategy. The quarter's results reflected the strategic priorities and operating discipline that AOB has built into its business over time.
First-quarter net sales soared 25% year-over-year to $37.3 million, with adjusted growth of approximately 4%. This impressive performance was driven by higher sales with key retailers, including the largest e-commerce retailer and mass retailer, as well as strong direct-to-consumer sales through AOB's own websites and international customers.
AOB also experienced double-digit growth in both its outdoor lifestyle and shooting sports categories. The company's point-of-sale (POS) data showed a 6% increase in outdoor lifestyle and a 3% rise in shooting sports, marking the sixth consecutive quarter of positive year-over-year POS growth.
The company's key growth brands, including BOG, BUBBA, Caldwell, Grilla, and MEAT! Your Maker, delivered combined net sales growth on a year-over-year basis. New products contributed 36% of first-quarter net sales, exceeding the historical average of 20-25%, driven by strong consumer pull-through and retailer replenishment.
AOB's focus on innovation has been instrumental in driving revenue and profitability. The company's strategy generates natural consumer demand without the need for promotions, differentiating AOB from its competitors. By focusing on product categories where innovation can disrupt the status quo and deliver superior products, AOB aims to take share and establish itself as a leader in the outdoor industry.
AOB CFO Andy Fulmer also touched on the company's disciplined execution and agility, which have enabled it to deliver strong results despite various challenges. The company believes that these capabilities will be crucial in executing against its growth objectives for the year.
