Charter Communications Accelerates Mobile Growth and Improves Video Customer Retention in Q2 2026

Charter Communications, a leading provider of broadband services, has reported impressive results for the second quarter of 2026. During this period, the company added over 400,000 Spectrum Mobile lines, taking its total mobile customer base to 12.5 million and solidifying its position as the fastest-growing mobile provider in its footprint.

In a conference call with investors, Charter's President and CEO, Chris Winfrey, highlighted the significant growth in mobile subscribers, stating that "we added over 400,000 Spectrum Mobile lines, making that 1.7 million lines over the last 12 months, for growth of 16%." This achievement underscores the company's focus on expanding its mobile offerings and improving customer satisfaction through enhanced services and pricing.

Despite a slight decline in revenue, driven by lower residential revenue, Charter's video customer losses continued to improve. The company reported a loss of 21,000 video customers, significantly better than last year's performance. This improvement is attributed to the company's investment in delivering the best video product and value in the market.

However, the internet customer landscape presented some challenges for Charter during Q2 2026. With increased competition from expanded footprints, the company experienced a loss of 172,000 internet customers, higher than a year ago. This was largely due to softer gross additions, while churn remained relatively unchanged. Despite this setback, Chris Winfrey expressed confidence in the company's ability to stabilize and return to broadband growth through its improved converged connectivity product, pricing, and increasing demand for speed, data, and reliability.

Charter's focus on improving customer satisfaction also yielded positive results. The company reported significant churn reduction among internet customers who purchased mobile services, with a 40% decrease in churn compared to those without mobile subscriptions. This trend was further reinforced by the activation of programmer app inclusion offers, which resulted in an additional 40% reduction in churn across all broadband relationships.

As Charter continues to navigate the competitive landscape, it remains committed to delivering exceptional service and reliability. The company's President and CEO emphasized the importance of good prices and savings for customers, highlighting its $1,000 savings guarantee for new and existing customers with mobile services. This initiative aims to improve customer satisfaction and drive NPS scores, further solidifying Charter's position in the market.

Looking ahead, Charter expects a significant reduction in capital expenditures, which will contribute to improved cash flow growth. The company also anticipates benefits from cost pass-throughs on internet this summer and political advertising, as well as AI service and cost benefits that are beginning to ramp up.
