Dollar General Surpasses Expectations with Strong Q2 Performance

Dollar General, the leading American retailer, has announced its second quarter 2026 earnings call results, surpassing expectations in top-line growth, operating margin expansion, and strong double-digit EPS growth. The company's CEO, Todd Vasos, highlighted the balanced performance in a statement on the conference call.

Net sales for the quarter increased by 0.2% to $11.3 billion, compared to net sales of $10.7 billion in last year's second quarter. Market share growth was seen in both dollars and units in highly consumable product sales, as well as non-consumable product sales. The company grew its market share in the quarter, which demonstrates the strength and broad appeal of Dollar General's unique combination of value and convenience.

Same-store sales increased 3.5% during the quarter, driven by customer traffic growth of 2% and average basket growth of 1.5%. This marks the fifth consecutive quarter of growth in customer traffic as the company continues to build on its momentum with both new and existing customers. All four merchandising categories delivered positive comp sales for the sixth consecutive quarter, with non-consumables outpacing consumables.

The company's CEO, Todd Vasos, stated that Dollar General's core customers are financially constrained due to various factors, including higher fuel prices. The company is well-positioned to meet these customers' needs, with more than 21,000 stores located within five miles of approximately 75% of the U.S. population.

Dollar General's strong delivery presence also contributed an estimated 40 basis points to its comp sales growth in Q2. As the company continues to expand its online shopping capabilities and delivery services, it remains confident in driving continued growth in sales, market share, and customer traffic.

With a unique competitive strength in its expansive store footprint and growing delivery presence, Dollar General is well-positioned for long-term success. The company's strong second-quarter performance demonstrates its ability to meet the evolving needs of its customers and drive profitable growth.

In his remarks, Todd Vasos emphasized the importance of serving others every day in Dollar General stores, distribution centers, private fleet, and store support center. He expressed gratitude for the team's dedication to fulfilling this mission.

Donny Lau, CFO, will join Todd Vasos to walk through their financial results and outlook during the call. Emily Taylor, Chief Operating Officer, will also be available for questions from investors.
