Fifth Third Achieves Resounding Success in Q3 2026, Exceeding Key Profitability Targets

Fifth Third, a leading financial institution, has announced its third-quarter 2026 earnings results, showcasing impressive performance amidst a highly competitive environment. Chairman and CEO Tim Spence took the stage to highlight the company's achievements during a recent conference call.

In his opening remarks, Spence emphasized the importance of people in driving business success, praising employees for their dedication to clients, shareholders, and one another. This commitment was particularly evident in the aftermath of Comerica's acquisition, which involved the largest and most complicated conversion in Fifth Third's 168-year history.

The company has reported earnings per share of $0.90 or $1.13, excluding certain items outlined in the release. Adjusted PPNR grew 8% over the second quarter as adjusted revenue grew 2%, while adjusted expenses fell 2%. Core deposits increased by 3% sequentially and loans grew by 1%, demonstrating steady growth.

Notably, Fifth Third has already exceeded two of its three 2027 profitability targets outlined in the deal announcement. The company's adjusted return on tangible common equity was 20.6%, while adjusted return on assets was 1.41% and adjusted efficiency ratio was 54.6%. Despite a significant increase in the 10-year treasury rate, tangible book value per share grew by 2% year-over-year.

One notable highlight from the conference call was the company's strong performance in retail deposits, particularly in Texas and the Southeast. Fifth Third ranked number one in its retail footprint and number three nationally in year-over-year retail deposit growth. In Texas, retail deposits in Dallas and Houston grew more than 20% over the prior year, with the company gaining more than 40 basis points of market share.

In the Southeast, retail deposits continue to grow at a rate more than five times the overall regional growth rate, with an impressive 11% compound annual rate over the past five years. The company's Southeast de novo program has been a significant contributor to this success story.

Fifth Third's achievements during Q3 2026 serve as a testament to its commitment to driving organic growth and market share through strategic investments and operational excellence. As the company moves forward, it is well-positioned to continue delivering strong results in an increasingly competitive environment.
