Grupo Financiero Galicia Rides Out Macroeconomic Headwinds to Report Strong Q2 Results

Grupo Financiero Galicia, the Argentine banking giant, has navigated the country's challenging macroeconomic environment with aplomb, posting a 12% increase in net income for the second quarter of 2026. In a conference call held on August 26, the company's management highlighted the improved performance of its core businesses, including Banco Galicia and Fondos Fima, as key drivers behind the strong quarterly results.

According to Mr. Pablo Firvida, head of investor relations, the Argentine economy expanded by 2.7% year-over-year in June, with real activity indicators showing a more stable macroeconomic environment. Despite this, private sector peso-denominated deposits grew by 8.4% during the quarter and 31.8% over the last 12 months, while time deposits increased by 8.2% and 45.5%, respectively.

The company's banking arm, Banco Galicia, saw its net income improve by 211% sequentially and 21% compared to the same period in 2025. This was largely due to lower funding costs, stronger performance from government securities and derivatives, and a modest expansion in Net Interest Margin. Credit quality trends also improved, reducing Provision for Loan Losses.

The integration of Galicia Má s, formerly HSBC, has driven further efficiency gains, with ongoing synergies contributing to the company's overall profitability. Average interest-earning assets reached ARS 30 trillion, a 6% increase from the previous quarter, primarily driven by higher volumes of government securities in pesos and dollars.

Notably, the quarterly results were also buoyed by lower inflation-driven monetary losses, as monthly inflation decelerated from 3.4% in March to 1.9% in June. The exchange rate averaged ARS 1,450 per dollar, implying an 18.5% year-over-year depreciation.

Grupo Financiero Galicia's strong Q2 performance underscores the company's ability to adapt and thrive in a complex macroeconomic environment. As the Argentine economy continues to evolve, investors will be watching closely for further evidence of the company's resilience and growth prospects.
