Hasbro Delivers Strong Q2 Performance, Magic: The Gathering Sets Sights on Decades-Long Franchise Growth

Hasbro, one of the world's largest toy and game companies, delivered another strong quarter in its second fiscal quarter of 2026. According to CEO Chris Cocks, the company's performance was marked by growth across all major business segments.

In a call with investors on July 21st, Cocks highlighted the success of Hasbro's Wizards segment, which includes Magic: The Gathering, as well as its toy and game business. He noted that despite headwinds from oil and trade policy, the company delivered 15% growth for the first half of 2026.

Specifically, Magic: The Gathering continued to grow at a strong clip, with Q2 revenue up over 32% compared to the same period last year. For the first half of 2026, revenue was up over 34%. Cocks emphasized that this performance is not just due to the game's popularity among enthusiasts but rather its longevity and ability to attract new fans through Universes Beyond.

Universes Beyond is an expansion of the Magic universe that allows players to engage with their favorite franchises in new ways. This platform has enabled Hasbro to tap into a broader audience and create a robust secondary market for the game. As a result, Cocks claimed that Magic: The Gathering is not just a niche hobby business but rather a 'mega-franchise' that belongs alongside other iconic entertainment brands like Pokémon, EA Sports, World of Warcraft, and Minecraft.

The numbers bear out Cocks' claims. Since 2009, Hasbro's tabletop and digital Magic businesses have compounded revenue at an average annual rate of over 17%. This level of consistency has enabled the company to build a loyal fan base that treats the game as a lifelong pursuit rather than a passing trend.

In addition to its Wizards segment, Hasbro also saw growth in its toy business. Revenue was up 5% in Q2, and the company's focus on Games categories continues to pay off. These areas of the toy industry are characterized by gamification, entertainment-driven content, multi-purchase opportunities, and intergenerational appeal.

Cocks expressed confidence in Hasbro's future prospects, citing the company's ability to adapt to changing market conditions and capitalize on emerging trends. As he noted, Magic: The Gathering is a leader in one of the biggest categories in toys, collectibles, and games, and its Universes Beyond platform has the potential to grow into a significant player in the entertainment industry.
