Hyster-Yale Powers Through Challenging Environment with Strong Bookings and Cost Savings

The third quarter of 2026 has been a testament to Hyster-Yale's resilience in the face of a challenging market environment. Despite lower part sales, the company managed to increase revenue by 2% sequentially to $827 million, driven by higher shipment volumes. This improvement was further bolstered by structural cost savings, which supported operating performance and led to both operating loss and net loss narrowing compared to the second quarter of 2026.

The company's Adjusted EBITDA returned to positive at $6 million for the quarter, a significant turnaround from previous quarters. Operating cash flow also increased to $26 million, $10 million above the second quarter, primarily due to stronger earnings and improved working capital execution, particularly in accounts payable.

One of the standout features of Hyster-Yale's third-quarter performance was its bookings, which surged by 45% from prior year to $550 million. This marked the fourth consecutive quarter of elevated bookings relative to the cyclical low point in 2025 and demonstrates a growing demand for the company's products.

Backlog remained steady at approximately $1.6 billion, providing a solid foundation for future growth. The company's executives attributed this momentum to its strategic product investments, which have expanded its reach into new applications and price points. These investments have helped offset lower sales of higher-value products, such as standard and premium counterbalance trucks.

According to Rajiv Prasad, President and Chief Executive Officer, the company's objective is to match product capability and total cost of ownership more precisely to each application. This includes introducing modular and scalable product solutions that reduce complexity across engineering, sourcing, and manufacturing.

Hyster-Yale's executives expressed confidence in their ability to continue supporting volume growth, profitability, and market share gains through its value and standard offerings, including the 1-ton to 3.5-ton, 4-ton to 9-ton, and Big Truck product lines. The company is poised to power through challenging times with a solid base of demand, improved cost structure, and a strong cash generation.
