Ionic Digital Powers Ahead in Q3 2026 with Strong Progress on Key Initiatives

On November 4th, Ionic Digital released its third-quarter earnings call transcript, showcasing the company's impressive strides in meeting its top priority: contracting remaining capacity at Ward County and Midland. Chief Executive Officer Andy Stewart took center stage to discuss the key milestones achieved during this quarter.

In August, Ionic completed a direct listing, energized the first data hall at Ward County, and began collecting cash rent on the Nscale lease. These achievements laid the groundwork for further growth, with customers increasingly valuing factors such as timely power availability, developer reliability, and a strong balance sheet. Stewart emphasized that Ionic offers all three, setting it apart from competitors.

Since August, demand for AI capacity has remained strong, but timelines have become a crucial factor in project announcements and energization. ERCOT's process has pushed tenants to scrutinize sites with genuine paths to power, benefiting Ionic with its 466 MW request at Ward County being provisionally classified under Baseload Pathway (b). The company has secured 323 gross megawatts under contract with Nscale, alongside a pipeline of approximately 500 gross megawatts of near-term grid power across Ward County and Midland.

One significant advantage for Ionic lies in its debt-free balance sheet, boasting $630 million in liquidity. This provides the flexibility to fund development while also leveraging a financeable cash-flowing lease on 234 MW. The lease is guaranteed by NVIDIA for the first five years, with Microsoft as the ultimate customer. Stewart highlighted the company's development team, composed of individuals with decades-long experience designing, developing, and contracting data centers.

This team's expertise in mechanical and electrical engineering, combined with hands-on experience delivering mission-critical facilities, enables Ionic to anticipate and manage risk effectively. As leading GPU platforms continue pushing power densities into the hundreds of kilowatts per rack range and adopting direct-to-chip liquid cooling, Ionic is well-equipped to meet these demands.

The election results in Texas have brought about a new administration set to take office in January. The governor-elect has expressed intentions to pause new data centers until the legislature sets new rules. However, Stewart pointed out that Ionic's Ward County expansion has been provisionally classified under Baseload Pathway (b), an existing project distinction that may set it apart from new projects.
