Mammoth Energy Services Soars in Q3 2026: Aviation Leasing Drives Profits as Company Continues Transformation
Mammoth Energy Services, a leading provider of energy services, has reported an outstanding quarter in its third-quarter earnings conference call. The company's adjusted EBITDA more than doubled sequentially to $5.8 million, with an adjusted EBITDA margin expanding to 27.2% from 10% in the second quarter.
The improvement in earnings was driven mainly by three factors: aviation leasing, sand delivered improved results, and accommodations saw stronger occupancy numbers. Aviation leasing accounted for three-quarters of the segment's adjusted EBITDA this quarter, with rentals generated from leased assets significantly contributing to the company's bottom line.
Mark Layton, Chief Financial Officer, attributed the strong performance to a combination of factors, including higher pricing and better operating performance in sand delivery, as well as improved occupancy rates in accommodations. He emphasized that the shift toward higher-margin aviation leasing has driven significant profitability improvement despite lower sequential revenue.
As more of the company's fleet goes on lease, Layton expects recurring aviation revenue to remain an important driver of earnings and margin improvement. This is particularly evident given the significant growth in the company's aviation portfolio, which now boasts 44 assets as compared to just 15 a year ago.
The CEO also highlighted the company's progress in taking cost out of the organization and bringing greater discipline to capital allocation. Every business in the portfolio competes for capital based on its returns, with aviation remaining the top priority given its attractive returns.
On the topic of capital deployment, Mark Layton reported that Mammoth invested $41.8 million during the quarter primarily in aviation leasing. The company's total cost of its aviation portfolio was approximately $134.9 million as of September 30th, up from $108.1 million at June 30th.
The CEO also announced a senior secured term loan facility with Bank7, providing for commitments of up to $58 million. This move is expected to further support the company's expansion plans in aviation leasing and other areas of its business.
