MARA Powers Ahead: Expanding Digital Infrastructure and Leadership in AI Era
MARA, a leader in securing power, deploying compute, and running infrastructure efficiently, has made significant strides in its second quarter of fiscal year 2026. The company's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Fred Thiel, and Chief Financial Officer, Salman Khan, shared their vision for MARA's growth plans during the earnings conference call.
Thiel emphasized that the AI conversation has been centered around models, chips, and capital, but the real challenge lies in securing enough energized, permitted capacity. "The question is no longer who can fund the next wave of compute, it is who has the power," he stated. MARA's strengths lie in its ability to secure power, deploy compute, and run infrastructure efficiently, which are essential for the AI era.
The company's foundation was built over a decade through Bitcoin mining, where it created one of the world's largest distributed compute platforms across four continents. This experience has allowed MARA to accumulate strategic land and power assets, deep technical expertise, and a disciplined framework for deciding where each megawatt can create the most value.
Today, MARA is applying its foundation more broadly by owning, developing, and operating digital infrastructure across power, land, and compute. This flexibility matters as many companies entering this market are still searching for sites, power, and operating capabilities that MARA has spent years assembling.
The second quarter marked another important step in MARA's evolution with the advancement of the Long Ridge transaction towards closing. The company also announced the acquisition of a strategically located power site in Matagorda County, Texas, which has the potential to support approximately two gigawatts of future capacity upon ERCOT and interconnection approval.
Upon completion of the pending transactions and required approvals, MARA's power portfolio is expected to reach approximately 4.8 gigawatts, more than doubling its current capacity. This would establish one of the largest powered land portfolios in the industry and create a significant platform for long-term shareholder value.
MARA operates one integrated digital infrastructure platform built around power, land, and compute. Digital infrastructure is its primary growth focus, where it is developing campuses and pursuing long-term customer relationships at scale. The company's Exaion and technology initiatives add targeted capabilities around that core, helping to address specialized customer needs, improve the utilization of its infrastructure, and extend the value of the assets it owns.
