Oxford Lane Capital Corp Surveys a Challenging Q2 2027, Reaffirming Resilience Amidst Market Volatility

As the second quarter of 2027 came to a close, Oxford Lane Capital Corp (OLC) navigated a complex financial landscape, marked by fluctuations in investment income and a decrease in net asset value. Despite these challenges, the company demonstrated its resilience, reaffirming its commitment to shareholders through strategic investments and debt management.

On September 30th, OLC's net asset value per share stood at $9.95, a decline from the previous quarter's $10.74. This reduction was largely attributed to a decrease in GAAP total investment income, which fell by approximately $4.8 million to $82.2 million. The company's CLO equity and warehouse investments contributed $78.8 million to this total, while CLO debt investments and other income added $3.4 million.

Despite these declines, Oxford Lane recorded GAAP net investment income of approximately $47.8 million, or $0.49 per share, for the quarter ended September. This was compared to $50.2 million, or $0.51 per share, in the prior quarter. The company's Core Net Investment Income stood at around $66.4 million, or $0.68 per share, a significant decrease from the previous quarter's $93.4 million, or $0.95 per share.

Oxford Lane's investment portfolio experienced unrealized depreciation of approximately $43.8 million and net realized losses of about $22.6 million during the quarter ended September 30th. This led to a net decrease in net assets resulting from operations of around $18.5 million, or $0.19 per share.

As of September 30th, the company's weighted average effective yield on CLO equity investments at current cost was 10.5%, down from 11.1% as of June 30th. The weighted average cash distribution yield on these investments also declined to 12.4%, compared to 16.3% in the prior quarter. These metrics, however, do not necessarily reflect total return to shareholders.

During the quarter, Oxford Lane made additional CLO investments totaling approximately $18.7 million and received around $31.2 million from sales and repayments. The company's board of directors declared monthly common stock distributions of $0.10 per share for January, February, and March 2027.

In a notable move, Oxford Lane redeemed $30 million of its 5.00% Notes due 2027 on October 2nd, with the remaining $40 million set to be fully retired on December 4th. The company also issued an additional 1.6 million shares of its 8.25% Series 2031 Term Preferred Stock on October 23rd, carrying a liquidation preference of $40 million.
