SES Achieves Breakthroughs in Energy Storage and Drones with 40% Revenue Growth in Q2 2026
SES, a leading innovator in energy storage and drones, has marked a significant milestone in its second quarter of 2026, achieving a revenue growth of over 40% compared to the same period last year. This remarkable achievement is attributed to the company's dedication to accelerating product development using AI for materials and building a robust supply chain to manufacture these products.
Qichao Hu, founder and Chief Executive Officer of SES, expressed his excitement about the company's progress during the Q2 2026 conference call. "We began seeing significant commercial milestones in Q2," he said. "Our revenue grew by more than 40% compared to Q2 last year, and our gross margin improved from 18% to more than 22% due to our differentiated technology and robust supply chain."
One of the key highlights of SES's progress is its release of Molecular Universe MU-3.0, an agentic workflow platform that can work with sodium chemistry as well as lithium chemistry and can be integrated with autonomous labs deployed fully secured and on-premise. The company has also shipped its first Search-in-a-Box order to one of the world's largest battery manufacturers.
SES's efforts in building a robust supply chain to manufacture energy storage systems (ESS) have yielded significant results, particularly in the U.S. market. The company was selected by Sol-Ark as a certified battery partner and has brought on Paul Diemer, ex-CTO of Flex Power, to its board to guide its ESS strategy.
For drones and unmanned systems, SES is recruiting a team with a proven track record of selling to defense and commercial drones. The company expects to start producing 1 million NDAA-compliant cells per year in about one month at its Korea plant, based on strong customer demand that extends well into 2028.
SES's ESS systems, enabled by Edgebox technology, are trained on the specific cells used in their hardware systems, allowing for one-to-one matching, accurate state of health, and safety management. This prediction accuracy not only prevents fires and other incidents but also results in significant savings for customers across residential, commercial, industrial, and data center segments.
The company's certification with Sol-Ark is expected to accelerate the growth of its subsidiary, UZ Energy's revenue in the U.S., particularly given recent FCC restrictions around foreign-produced inverters and other electronics. Paul Diemer's addition to the board of directors has also been hailed as a significant development for SES.
