SoundThinking Surpasses Strategic Milestones as Q2 2026 Earnings Exceed Expectations

The latest conference call transcript from SoundThinking's second quarter 2026 earnings release has revealed significant strides made by the company in its pursuit of strategic initiatives. CEO Ralph Clark and CFO Alan Stewart led the discussion, highlighting key highlights from the quarter that demonstrate a notable shift towards profitability.

In Q1, SoundThinking discussed several strategic initiatives aimed at shaping their year, including aggressive application of AI across operations and workforce and business optimization initiatives. The company has now delivered on these promises, achieving positive adjusted EBITDA for the first time in Q2 with a figure of $1.2 million. This marks a significant milestone as the operating leverage line is surpassed, with incremental revenue converting to adjusted EBITDA.

"We've been aggressively applying AI across our own operations," Clark noted, emphasizing the importance of this effort in driving structural cost savings rather than one-time reductions. The company's cost discipline has cushioned the profitability impact of a lighter top line and will allow it to intentionally reduce its expense burn going forward while protecting growth-driving investments.

Revenue retention remains a key differentiator for SoundThinking, with revenue renewals being driven upwards. Notably, the company closed over $23 million in total contract value across several multi-year renewals, including ShotSpotter deals with Albuquerque (42 sq mi), Worcester, Massachusetts, Richland County, South Carolina, Macon-Bibb, Georgia, Peoria, Illinois, and a CrimeTracer renewal with the Massachusetts State Police. A nine-month extension of its 38-square-mile Detroit deployment has also been secured.

The significant number and quality of these multi-year renewals underscore the stickiness of SoundThinking's solutions as well as the high confidence and satisfaction their customers have in the company's capabilities. Recent win-backs with Erie, Pennsylvania, and Cambridge, Massachusetts, were also highlighted, demonstrating the resilience and adaptability of the business.

"The number and quality of these multi-year renewals speak to the stickiness of our solutions," Clark stated, further reinforcing the importance of revenue retention in driving growth. With these strategic milestones now surpassed, SoundThinking appears poised for continued success moving forward.
