Stanley Black & Decker Roars Back with Strong Q3 Earnings
Stanley Black & Decker delivered a stellar third quarter, posting 4% organic growth, 39.4% adjusted gross margin, and strong cash generation.
In a conference call with investors, the company's President and CEO, Chris Nelson, highlighted the success of its three core brands, each of which achieved organic growth through targeted investments in brand activation, innovation, and commercial execution.
Nelson noted that these results demonstrate the effectiveness of the company's strategy and position it for sustainable value creation. He also attributed the strong earnings to a meaningful amount of IEEPA tariff refunds received during the quarter, as well as cost savings from lower share counts due to buybacks and reduced net interest expense.
Adjusted EBITDA came in at 16.3%, a significant improvement of 400 basis points year-over-year. Adjusted earnings per share (EPS) reached $2.31, surpassing the midpoint of guidance by $0.76, with the tariff refund effect contributing $0.67 to EPS.
The company's capital allocation strategy is also showing signs of success, as it repurchased over 2.5 million shares for approximately $250 million in the quarter, utilizing a significant portion of its authorized share buyback program.
Building on this momentum, Stanley Black & Decker raised and tightened its full-year EPS guidance, reflecting continued confidence in the business for the balance of the year. Executive Vice President and CFO Patrick Hallinan will provide more detailed financial information during the call.
In addition to its operating success, the company took significant steps to strengthen its portfolio and capital allocation flexibility. In September, it announced a definitive agreement to sell Excel, the Hustler-branded large-format mower business, which is expected to further streamline its portfolio and allow resources to be focused on areas where growth and value creation are more likely.
The deal, which is expected to close around year-end, will remain in Stanley Black & Decker's results until then. The company also recently received approval from the board of directors for a new $1 billion share repurchase authorization, extending its flexibility to return capital to shareholders while continuing to invest in the business and advance strategic priorities.
Stanley Black & Decker's Q3 performance demonstrates the effectiveness of its strategy and position it for sustainable value creation. With continued strength in execution and confidence in the business, investors can expect further growth and success from this industrious company."
