UnitedHealth Group Powers Ahead with 13% to 16% Long-Term Target Growth Range

UnitedHealth Group, a leading health insurance company, has reported a strong third quarter performance in 2026. The company's revised full-year guidance reflects continuing improvements in leadership and execution across its businesses, including Optum and UnitedHealthcare.

In a conference call with investors on October 13, 2026, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Steve Hemsley highlighted the company's progress towards its long-term target growth range of 13% to 16%. He emphasized that the company is driving meaningful progress and reinforcing confidence in sustainably growing in 2027 and beyond.

The company has accelerated the modernization of its enterprise by advancing simplified and more responsive policies, processes, and tools. This includes focusing on integrated value-based care offerings, responsibly building modern agentic infrastructure, and ensuring that people have access to higher quality care at lower costs while clinicians experience a simpler, faster, and more supportive system.

UnitedHealth Group has also leveraged artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities across its businesses to improve service speed and experience, streamline administration, and reduce friction for both consumers and clinicians. For example, the company has expanded AI-enabled chart summarization to over 40% of its employed clinicians, reducing chart review time by 33%. Additionally, AI-powered plan recommendation is being introduced during this year's Medicare Advantage annual enrollment period to help simplify selection.

The company aims to implement all previously announced prior authorization reforms by the end of this year. This includes a reduction of two-thirds in prior authorizations for people under the age of 18 and a total reduction of 30% in prior authorizations. These efforts are central to how UnitedHealth Group is changing its enterprise to better align with its mission, creating greater value and positive social impact.

In that vein, the company has reimagined the United Health Foundation, committing $1 billion to date to facilitate scaled solutions to some of the U.S. health system's greatest challenges, including rural health, maternal and infant health, behavioral health, and workforce education. As an example, in Tennessee, the foundation is helping expand and operate health hubs across the state, providing access to underserved communities in preventative care and chronic condition support.

The broader healthcare environment remains dynamic, with policy-driven regulatory developments, changing consumer expectations, and rapid evolution of clinical care and advances in technology reshaping the industry. Success requires continuous adaptation, and UnitedHealth Group recognizes this, remaining restless in its pursuit of change and improvement. The company is challenging assumptions, revising policies and practices, and repositioning leadership and capabilities to better meet the needs of those it serves and to move faster as an enterprise to adapt to the changing healthcare landscape.
