Nike Delivers Strong Q1 2027 Performance Amid Industry Challenges
Nike, Inc. reported a solid first quarter fiscal 2027 performance, with revenue within the company's guided range and gross margin improvement.
In a call with analysts, Nike President and CEO Elliott Hill highlighted the momentum in the sport offense, which drove results across key sports. The company's Nike brand performance portfolio continued to grow, building on last year's $16 billion achievement. However, the pressure on Nike Sportswear, Jordan Brand, and Greater China still presented a challenge.
Hill emphasized that Nike has identified areas for improvement in these businesses and is actively repositioning them. The company reduced revenue from the Dunk by nearly 50% in the quarter, resulting in a $200 million headwind in sportswear. Additionally, some aged higher volume sportswear footwear sold through below expectations.
Despite these challenges, Hill noted that several major franchises within sportswear are healthy and growing. The Air Force 1 is driving a stable full-price business through new dimensions and seasonal materials and colors. Running-inspired silhouettes, such as the P-6000 and Vomero 5, grew by strong double digits in this quarter.
The company also highlighted early success with newness at scale, including the launch of Studio Fleece for women and Solo Fleece for men during back-to-school season. The Studio Fleece was the best-performing apparel collection of the quarter in all of Nike, Inc.
Nike CFO Dave Denton joined Hill on the call, bringing deep financial expertise and a proven track record of helping world-class companies grow. The company is transforming its operating model to scale the success of the sport offense across the business.
The transformation work has been underway for some time, and it's an important part of building Nike the right way for the long term, according to Hill. While challenges remain, Nike's strong Q1 2027 performance demonstrates the company's resilience and commitment to driving results through its sport offense strategy."
